She-Hulk: A Meta Commentary

She-Hulk: A Meta Commentary is an episode-by-episode analysis of a largely misunderstood Marvel TV series that many viewers took at face value. Rather than a conventional superhero narrative, the show is a tightly woven piece of television metafiction — one that depicts not the clash of superpowered beings, but a head-on collision between two very different narrative styles.

In doing so, the series questions not only the tropes of heroic storytelling, but also the expectations placed on the genre and the role of the viewing audience itself.

If you were disappointed by She-Hulk: Attorney at Law yet found yourself wondering why the writers made the scripting choices they did, this commentary offers a guide to the method behind the madness. It hopes that previous viewers might consider giving the series a second watch — and that first-time viewers might go in with more realistic expectations of this unexpectedly human treatment of a superhero’s tale.
